Research On Sound Design

I have done some research on comparing different sounds from video games to ensure the type of sounds per generation. So, As an abundant source of VFX, I decided to choose Sounds in Video Games.

I had to pick a game that was common to all generations in the millennials.

A specific game that lived through the millennials was a game that was published by Nintendo. Most of us might have heard of the game character, A plumber who dedicates his life to save the love of his life, A princess.

Yes, you guessed it! Super Mario.

I dug up some old samples of from the Super Mario Brothers series and compared it as the generation progresses.
I found out that through the early stages, the sounds were more pixelated ( due to the limitation of the technology available) but then as the generation progresses, even with the advancement of technology, they still kept the original idea in place, but they kept to their "roots".

For example.
1-UP in Super Mario Bros in 1985 and compare it to 1-UP in Super Mario World 1992
And even after they changed up the game into 3D perspective, the sound of the 1-UP still reminiscence the olden days.( 1-UP in Super Mario 64 1997)

This also can be seen in the other sfx of the games such as,
Game Over (Super Mario Bros 1985)
Game Over (Super Mario World 1992)
Game Over (New Super Mario Bros 2009)

Intially the ideas of the sound are not to say similiar, but they compliment each other in the following generation the games were made in. As technology advances there are surely changes that will occur. Either in a good way or a bad way (not blaming you, mario 64.) However, the emotion of the sound stay the same. It concludes that emotions do not change as you progress through generations.

So in this installation, I will compare each footage of the videos made and fit in the appropriate sound effects (SFX) that will be used. (maybe add in background music as well but we will see on the progress).

Some of the rough ideas I have made on selection on applying the sounds on each emotion are such as Happy, Neutral, Anxiety, Scared, Suprise, Angry, Panic. (With the help of colour and emotion research that was done by Shiun Kai.)

All these sounds were made in Ableton Live 9, through third-party plug-ins such as Native Instruments Reaktor + Xfer Records Serum and samples that i have download from the net licensed-free.
